How Alert Labs calculates Water & Carbon Savings

Updated over a month ago

At Alert Labs, we are passionate about saving water and energy while improving operational efficiencies and protecting our customers’ properties from damage. As of January 1, 2025, Alert Labs technology and data analytics have saved over 10 billion gallons of wasted water and stopped 120K metric tonnes of CO2e from entering the atmosphere. Impressive, right? We love sharing that number. We thought you'd like to be able to track and share your Water and Carbon Savings as well.

How are Water and Carbon Savings calculated?

These metrics represent the estimated amount of water you've saved and carbon dioxide emissions you've prevented by using Alert Labs products to detect and address leaks, high water usage, and floods. It's not just water water that's wasted when leaks are left unchecked. There are also costs and consequences associated with the wasted energy, replaced materials, and restoration efforts. With this in mind, we partnered with an environmental consultancy to develop a reliable way to quantify the environmental impact.

Where can I find these metrics?

The Water and Carbon Savings can be found on the Overview page in AlertAQ, as well as in Advanced Exports of your Alerts history. You can download that directly from the Water and Carbon Savings tile on the Overview page, or

in the top right corner of the Alerts page, by clicking the down arrow beside Download and choosing Advanced Export.

Note: In certain edge cases, you may notice that the Water Savings metric shows 0 gallons saved, while there is still a value for Carbon Savings. This occurs when there are only flood events detected. In such scenarios, no water is saved directly; however, the carbon savings are calculated based on the damage restoration costs avoided due to the timely detection and mitigation of further flood events.
