Time zone changes on November 1, 2026: what AlertAQ™ customers need to know

Some Canadian regions are stopping clock changes. Here’s what it means for your AlertAQ™ data and alerts.

On November 1, 2026, most of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories will stop changing their clocks. Clocks in these regions will not go back one hour as they usually would. They will stay on their current time all year.

Alert Labs is updating AlertAQ™ to support these changes. Your sensor data and alerts are not affected, and you don’t need to change any settings.

Which buildings are affected?

Buildings in these areas are affected:

  • Most of British Columbia

  • Alberta, including southeastern British Columbia (East Kootenay), which follows Alberta time

  • Manitoba, including areas of northwestern Ontario that follow Manitoba time

  • The Northwest Territories

Golden, BC, is an exception. Clocks in Golden will go back one hour on November 1 for the last time, then stay on that time all year.

Everywhere else in Canada and the United States, clocks go back one hour on November 1 as usual.

Is my sensor data affected?

No. AlertAQ™ records sensor readings and alert events on a global clock that does not change with local time rules. Your data remains accurate.

Will leak detection and alerts keep working?

Yes. Leak detection and alerts continue to work normally before, during and after November 1.

How are timestamps shown in AlertAQ™?

The AlertAQ™ dashboard, reports and CSV exports show times in your building’s local time zone, with the time zone label beside each timestamp. For example:

Sep 1, 2025 6:00 AM EDT

Reports also show when they were created. For example:

Generated on Oct 6, 2026 11:01 PM EDT

After the update, timestamps for affected buildings will show the new local time and its time zone label.

Could timestamps appear one hour off?

We expect AlertAQ™ to support the new time zones by November 1. If the update isn’t complete by then, timestamps for affected buildings may appear one hour earlier than your local clock and show the previous time zone label.

For example, an event at 7:00 AM local time in Calgary could appear as:

6:00 AM MST

The event time is still correct. The label tells you which time zone the timestamp is shown in. Alerts are still sent normally.

Will my older reports and exports change?

No. Reports and CSV exports created before the update keep the time zone labels they were created with. If you compare older exports with newer ones, check the time zone label beside each timestamp.

Do I need to do anything?

No action is needed for most buildings.

If your building is in Golden, BC, or near a provincial or time zone border, contact Alert Labs Support and we’ll confirm your building’s time zone is set correctly.

What should I do if a timestamp looks wrong?

First, check the time zone label beside the timestamp. If it still doesn’t look right, contact Alert Labs Support. Include:

  • Your building name

  • The approximate time of the event

  • A screenshot or copy of the alert, report or export, if you have one
