Flow-based water shut-off

Shut off water when leaks or abnormal usage are detected

Updated this week

Time is damage when it comes to leaks and floods. Flow-based automatic shut-off works with your existing Flowie water flow sensors and Shuttie water shut-off valves to automatically turn of water when abnormal usage is detected.

Please note: Only users with Editor or Admin roles can enable this feature

How to enable flow-based water shut-off

  • Log into AlertAQ™.

  • Go to the Sensors page.

  • Find and select the Shuttie you'd like to use this feature. A Details panel will open.

  • Click the Settings button at the bottom.

  • Expand Sensor Settings, in the General section.

  • Enable Auto Shut-Off Water.

  • Read and accept the pop-up warning.

  • Choose between All or Select Flowie(s) to enable the feature for.

  • Select which alerts should trigger the shut-off.

What do the alerts mean?

  • Leaks — continuous, unintentional, low-flow water use

  • High Water Usage — sudden surges in water use that don’t match historical patterns

  • Water flow during Unoccupied Mode — optional setting that alerts you to any water use when the location is set to “unoccupied mode".

How do I restore water flow after an automatic shut-off?

Once the issue has been address, you can turn open your valves again through AlertAQ™ or manually actuate the Shuttie. We recommend using AlertAQ™.

  • Log into AlertAQ™.

  • Go to the Sensors page.

  • Find and select the Shuttie you'd like to use this feature. A Details panel will open.

If the Shuttie status is showing "Closed", click the blue Open Shuttie button. The status will update in the Details panel and you'll receive an alert when the valve has successfully opened.

Frequently asked questions:

How will I be notified when the system shuts off water?

Shuttie records two Alerts in AlertAQ™ whenever it actuates:

  • Shuttie Opening or Shuttie Closing - when the valve has received the command and is actioning it.

  • Shuttie Status Changed - when the valve has successfully changed position.

What information will I receive about why water was shut off?

In the AlertAQ™ Alerts page, click on the Shuttie Closing alert to open up the Details panel. The trigger or reason for the actuation will be listed there.

Is there a delay before water can be turned back on?

No. You can turn the water back on immediately. However, if the reason for the alert hasn't been solved, the shut-off will be triggered again.
