How to calibrate my water flow sensor

Only people with Editor and Admin permissions can calibrate sensors

Water meters differ by manufacturer, municipality, pipe size, and even age. Most report water use similarly, which we use as the default calibration on your Flowie or Flowie-O sensor.

However, to get the most accurate information and forecasting for your alerts, we recommend calibrating your Flowie and Flowie-O water flow sensors.

Check your calibration status

  • Sign in to the AlertAQ™ Water & A/C Intelligence Platform.

  • Click on the Sensors page from the navigational bar on the left.

  • Locate your water flow sensor:

    • Flowie and Flowie-O follow the same process.

    • The Sensors list has a column to let you know the calibration status

      • If it already says "Calibrated", you're done!

If you have multiple sensors, use the search feature to help you find the sensor you need faster. You can search by name, sensor type, location, or serial number!

  • Click on your sensor and a Details side panel will open.

  • If the sensor is not calibrated, the status will appear at the top of the side panel.

  • Click the button to view your progress or submit your photo.

Submitting a new photo

  • Within the Details side panel, click the button in the banner at the top.

    • There will be a brief summary of your current calibration state.

  • If it's time to submit a new calibration point, you'll have three options:

    1. Uploading a photo yourself.

    2. Sending the request to someone on site to take and upload the photo instead.

      • Alert Labs account or access is NOT required.

    3. Providing a manual reading in Expert Mode at the top

  • Select your method and follow the prompts.

  • Note: Be sure to use the date and time picker if there's a delay between when the photo was taken and when it is being uploaded by your team.

  • If you've previously submitted a photo to our team for review, the image, status, and any feedback will be included there as well.

  • If you'd like more information about how to take your photo, expand the collapsible instructions section at the bottom of the side panel.

📸 When taking a new photo...

  • Take a birds-eye-view of the numbers on the face / dial of your water meter

  • Please be sure to review your picture to make sure all information (all dials, digits, units) is visible. You may need to wipe the face of the meter, angle your flash away, or use a flashlight on a solar panel to make the reading appear clearly. See the video above for more tips.

Our calibration wizards will review your photo and add a calibration point to your sensor for improved accuracy. AlertAQ™ will let you know any feedback, progress, and next steps within the Platform and by email.
