Water Bill Calibration

Only people with Editor and Admin permissions can calibrate sensors

To get the most accurate information and forecasting for your alerts, we recommend calibrating your Flowie and Flowie-O water flow sensors. This can be done by someone onsite taking two pictures of the water meter approximately one week apart, or by using a Water Bill.

Check your calibration status

  • Click on the Sensors page from the navigational bar on the left.

  • Locate your water flow sensor:

Flowie and Flowie-O follow the same process.

    • The Sensors list has a column to let you know the calibration status

      • If it already says "Calibrated", you're done!

If you have multiple sensors, use the search feature to help you find the sensor you need faster. You can search by name, sensor type, location, or serial number!

  • Click on your sensor and a Details side panel will open.

  • If the sensor is not calibrated, the status will appear at the top of the side panel.

  • Click the button to view your progress or submit your reading.

Submitting Water Bills

Important Tips when using Water Bill Calibration

  • The date of the Previous Actual Reading must be some time after you installed and successfully connected your Flowie or Flowie-O. Water usage needs to be detected within your AlertAQ™ account at the time of that first reading.

  • Only use Actual readings, not Estimated. When a water management company cannot capture a meter reading, they may use an estimate instead. This is usually indicated by a Note on the front of the bill, and asterisks near the meter readings. Please only use Actual readings for calibration or use the Image Calibration process in your AlertAQ portal.

  • For compound meters or multiple meters, calibrate each dial separately. Your bill must list the high-side and low-side readings separately for this to work.

  • Log in and navigate to the Sensors page in AlertAQ™.

  • Find and select the sensor you need to calibrate.

  • At the top of the Details side panel, uncalibrated sensors will have a banner. Click the button in the banner.

  • To calibrate your sensor using a recent water bill, click the "Water Bill" tab at the top of the side panel.

  • You will have two submission options:

    • Slower (With Review) lets you upload your water bill and Alert Labs will complete the calibration. It may take 2-3 business days for calibration to be approved and applied.

    • Faster (No Review) bypasses the Alert Labs manual check. Calibration is applied immediately as entered.

Slower (With Review)

  • If you're unsure how to read your water bill, or would just appreciate a double-check by our experts, use the Slower method.

  • Upload a PDF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, or GIF of your Water Bill.

  • Optionally, enter the dates and values of the reading. Our team will still review and confirm.

  • You're done! Don't forget to hit the "Submit" button at the bottom before you close the side panel.

  • If we have any issues with the reading, we'll let you know.

Faster (No Review)

  • Use the Faster method if you're confident in your water bill accuracy and reading skills

  • Locate the Previous and Current Actual Readings on your bill.

  • Fill in the dates of each reading by clicking on "Select Date".

  • Then type the reading in the "Enter Value" field.

  • Select the readings Unit of Measure from the drop-down.

  • Optionally, upload a copy of the Water Bill as a future

  • You're done! Don't forget to hit the "Submit" button at the bottom before you close the side panel.

  • If we detect any issues with the reading, AlertAQ™ will let you know.

  • If you'd like more information about how to read your water bill, expand the collapsible instructions section at the bottom of the side panel. You can also reach out to our support team at any time.

Troubleshooting

Not enough data yet

There must be at least 14 days of water flow data detected by the sensor in order to unlock Water Bill calibration. Please makes sure that the reading dates are both past the installation date / the date that water usage begins in AlertAQ™.

  • From the Sensors page in AlertAQ™, find and select the sensor.

  • Click the "View Graph" button from the Details side panel.

  • Review the Water Usage graph and determine the date when the Actual bar readings begin.

  • If there is water usage recorded, make sure it's at least two weeks worth.

  • If there is no water usage recorded, review the installation instructions for your Flowie O and adjust your installation. Use the Help button in AlertAQ™ for additional troubleshooting. Once fixed, you'll need to wait at least two weeks before using Water Bill calibration again.
